About Us

We’re Phil and Heather Joel, the co-owners of The Green Room, nestled in the heart of downtown Franklin, Tennessee. With a combined background in music, television, and theatre, we've spent more than our fair share of time in backstage green rooms! But in 2023, we traded in our backstage passes for the exciting adventure of opening The Green Room, a home and gifts store that's as unique as the community we love.

As locals to Franklin for over 30 years, we've always had a deep love for this beautiful little town, and opening our store was a creative way of further deepening our roots in this place that's given us so much. We started as a pop-up at City Farmhouse in 2021, and opened our Main Street doors in April 2023. We may not have had retail experience when we started, but we've certainly had a crash course, and we're loving every minute of this new adventure!

Our small but mighty team, the Green Roomies, makes all of our candles, fragrance sprays, and skincare right here, backstage at our Main Street shop.

We hand-pour 100% soy wax candles in a range of signature scents, each with double cotton wicks and an essential oil and aromatherapy oil blend. We also make everyday cologne, room & linen spray made with organic ingredients and aromatherapy oil, along with organic face and eye serums and organic body oils, all built on clean, simple, high quality ingredients. Non-toxic, phthalate-free, vegan, and never tested on animals.

Every candle is touched at least ten times before it heads out the door. That's the slow way to do it. We think it's the right way.

At The Green Room, we believe in the power of shopping consciously. We're not just here to create a beautiful space. We're here to support our planet and our community. It's all about finding joy in things that are good for both people and the world around us.

We hold every product to the same standard we hold in our own home, because that's exactly where it ends up. Clean ingredients look after the people breathing them, and thoughtful sourcing looks after the planet. We want to leave this place better than we found it.

We've been lucky to get some wonderful attention along the way.

Southern Exposure Magazine featured the shop in 2023. "Everything in the shop has a story," Phil told them. "It's all connected to somebody who is doing something good for the planet and for people."

StyleBlueprint included us in their Downtown Franklin guide, calling The Green Room "a shop filled with earth-friendly, sustainable gifts" where "you can find everything from candles and home goods to baby gifts."

National Geographic Travel named the shop in their guide to Franklin and Leiper's Fork.

And we've been a top-three finisher in the Downtown Franklin Awards three years running, which means a lot coming from our own town!
